Welcome to my blog. I am a former elementary music teacher in her 3rd semester of grad school. I am getting my Master's Degree in Instructional Technology, with an educational technology focus. I have a pretty strong background in graphic design and multimedia as well.
I am glad you are here! Together, we can explore the world of Educational Technology. Please feel free to leave comments.
Wow! Your reflection hit quite a few points that I agree with. Well for starters, I have to say that these are technology savvy and they seem to no more than about computers when I was their age. For example, my son is able to watch movies, download and play live with on the internet with his uncle. I cannot believe how advance technology has become since it was first introduce. Another example, I just upgrade my phone and before I can learn about all of the new apps, my son was able to access the internet, download more apps, play videos, and if I allow him order products using my phone. I was quite amazed how fast he was able to figure utilize my phone. Second, you hit a point where we can do so much with just a phone. I remember in order for you upload a picture to the internet, you were only able to scan it. Now you can take a picture on your phone, and automatically upload it to the internet. You know longer have to print and scan your picture, you can also upload your pictures from your digital camera. I also have to agree that educators did what was convenient for them. They believed “what worked in the past” will work in today’s society and that’s not true. As an educator, I know that not all students learn and comprehend like their fellow classmates. That’s why I have differentiated instruction throughout my classroom. Even though I have only 3 computers in my room, somehow I’m able to organize a system that every student has the opportunity to utilize the computers. I am fortunate to have a smart board and an Elmo so that my students have an opportunity to explore different technology resources. I feel that the system is scrambling to catch up with today’s technology and they have realized that these students are at a disadvantage in today’s job market. If today’s youth need to compete during this technology time or period, we as educators need to make sure that we are allowing our students the opportunity to succeed.
